The Metropolitan Museum of Art's collection of Japanese art is one of the best in the world, and the Johnson Museum in Ithaca is ranked as one of the top six American university museum collections of Asian art. It includes work from China, Japan, Korea, India, the Himalayan kingdoms and Southeast Asia. Generally, while Western art often focuses on perspective or use of light and shadow, much Asian art involves the mastery of line and silhouette, and is designed to evoke contemplation and reflection.
